The Great Divergence in Pictures

Want to learn more about how economics in our nation has changed in the last thirty years?  Meander over to Slate and take a walk through 10 slides on ‘The Great Divergence in Pictures.”  Slide 10 is the best one as it succinctly describes who the Republicans represent … the rich.  It proves that Democrats represent “the” people across the board.

Share this one with your neighbors and friends … and ask them to seriously ponder the meaning of just this one graph as they cast their ballots this fall.  If the House and Senate fall into Republican hands (Boehner and McConnell, respectively) … we will likely see the privatization of social security, medicare, medicaid, and VA healthcare … all to their detriment and most likely and increase in cost over time to middle class tax payers.  We’ll lose benefits and income growth … and have to pay more for the benefit trusts we’ve been paying into over the span of our careers.  But they won’t stop there … they’ll attempt to repeal just about every piece of progress we’ve made …

  • Social Security — privatized (a gone during the next collapse)
  • Medicare/Medicaid/VA Health care — privatized and more expensive
  • Health care reform — gone …
  • Financial reform — gone …
  • American’s with Disabilities Act — gone …
  • 14th Amendment to the Constitution — gone …
  • 17th Amendment to the Constitution — gone …
  • Civil Rights Acts — gutted and ineffectual at preventing discrimination

Need I go on?  Get out there and talk to your friends and neighbors and help them understand just how pivotal the election can be this fall for our nation’s well-being.  There’s only 34 days until early voting opens … start motivating your friends and neighbors to get out an vote for Democratic candidates!
