The Two Faces of Mitch McConnell

The head of Office of Government Ethics, the federal agency charged with investigating the backgrounds of Donald Trump’s cabinet nominees, told Senate Democrats on Saturday that the process of vetting Trump’s picks is overwhelming the agency. Director Walter Shaub Jr. also emphasized his concern that Republicans are pushing forward with confirmation hearings for Trump’s nominees before the appropriate paperwork has been submitted and completed, and thus before the OGE can confirm that the nominees have no financial, ethical, or criminal red flags.

On Sunday morning, McConnell said on Face the Nation that Democrats should stop making “procedural complaints” and “grow up.”

“All of these little procedural complaints are related to their frustration at having not only lost the White House but having lost the Senate. I understand that but we need to sort of grow up here and get past that.”

(I’m not even going to address his rancid comments about Obamacare and his delusion of a “quick” replacement of that comprehensive program with a plan they haven’t yet put together and can’t agree upon amongst themselves let alone with anyone else …. but he claimed it would be replaced rapidly, quick, quick, quick)

Only 5 of PEOTUS’ nominees have all their paperwork in (but analysis isn’t complete).  That wasn’t the case in 2009 for Obama’s nominees.  Where McConnell now say’s, hey, all that paperwork will be in eventually, let’s just go ahead and get these confirmations done and backfill the paperwork later …. that clearly was NOT the case in 2009:

Hmmm, one set of strict rules for Democratic Presidents and a fly by the seat of your pants set of guidelines for Oligarchs.
